I'm still working on the customized navigation strip for the comm, but in the meantime, here's a small update:

Jump SQ #12, to be released on November 4th, will feature both Chikahito and Hana on the cover! (This is technically the first Gate 7 illustration with Chikahito in color, excluding the first page of Volume 1.) The magazine will also come with a second cover for Volume 2, which is the same illustration with its original blue background. Weirdly, CLAMP-net has not yet updated with the actual cover of Volume 2.

Alternate cover for Gate 7, Volume 2

Much thanks to [livejournal.com profile] chibiyuuto for the news!

The website for MOON SAGA: The Mystery of Yoshitsune, a multimedia collaboration between CLAMP and the highly-popular singer GACKT, opened yesterday. Tickets are now being sold for the live stage productions; in the future, CLAMP will draw a manga for the project, while there are additional plans for an animated series, video game, and film (which could be either animated or live-action, we don't know). Several of the companies involved in the project have worked with CLAMP in the past, including the publishing house Kodansha and PYROTECHNIST (which produced the second CLAMP in Wonderland video).

Gackt by CLAMP

As to why these news are being cross-posted here: the project bears a notable similarity with Gate 7, appearing to be a beautification rewriting of a popular subject in Japanese history (here Minamoto no Yoshitune of the Heian period). (As with the shady circumstances behind the deaths of Oda Nobunaga, Akechi Mitsuhide, and other Gate 7 characters, CLAMP is likely taking advantage of the myths surrounding Yoshitune to rework his story as they please.) While many of Gate 7's characters come from the Sengoku and early Tokugawa periods -- several hundred years after Yoshitune's death -- there may be crossovers between the two series in the future, as time differences have never deterred CLAMP from mixing their universes.

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] chibiyuuto and the folks at [livejournal.com profile] clamp_now for the information!

In community news, I will try to update the character pages as soon as I can. I'm back in my home country with plentiful Internet connections, but have been at a loss for time due to getting everything in order at university -- I'm sorry!

The MOON SAGA website included something interesting in CLAMP's bio: according to UNESCO, CLAMP as a single entity was the 10th most-widely-translated author in Japan as of 2010. The more you know!

CLAMP produced a new Gate 7 illustration for one of four posters included in the first issue of JUMP SQ. LaB, a collection of one-shots by various artists. (CLAMP themselves didn't contribute anything else, but don't be surprised if we see something Gate 7 related in the distant future.) You can see it here at [livejournal.com profile] chibiyuuto's journal!

The "Member" section of CLAMP's website has been gradually updated with Hana and Chikahito avatars, with Hana getting two wardrobe sets and Chikahito getting his outfit and guidebook from the first chapter. (Yes, you can dress them up as different CLAMP characters.) Unfortunately, the actual Character page for Gate 7 has never been updated since it was opened, and I myself have no reasonable explanation for that (beyond negligence).

There are no words left.

On the topic of negligence, I need to apologize for being absent from this community and from LiveJournal in general for so long. I'm currently in an intensive language-study program in Russia, and have not only had little time to go online, but also little time to even keep up on news about the series. Considering that Gate 7 is a monthly series, and that I only have one more month to go over here, this situation shouldn't continue for much longer; however, should it turn out that I can't manage the updates, Character page, and upcoming Synopsis, History, and Folklore sections come September, then I'll get together with [livejournal.com profile] jlarinda and [livejournal.com profile] samekh and discuss the possibility of vetting a new moderator. Hopefully it won't come to that, though!

With all that said, we're now six five chapters into the series! How have you enjoyed it so far? Do you like the current historically-based themes of the story, or would you have preferred the original dream-based plot described back in 2008? What battle-scarred, middle-aged warlord is going to get a makeover next? Share your thoughts!

The cover of the first tankoubon has been released: it seems that we'll be getting new illustrations! (Note how the mostly-black volume number is placed opposite of the mostly-white Ura-shichiken logo. Is it Tsubaki Nekoi or Satsuki Igarashi who normally does the volume layouts?) This volume will be released tomorrow. Thank you to [livejournal.com profile] chibiyuuto for telling everyone!

Also from [livejournal.com profile] chibiyuuto: earlier last month, CLAMP released some blog parts to commemorate the release of the first tankoubon. We're putting the codes and images here again for posterity.

I've been testing a new [livejournal.com profile] refutare layout for the comm that highlights the informational links. You can see it here; please tell me if it works with your browser, and if you have any recommendations for color schemes and images to use.

Finally, would anyone be interested in contributing to the writing of the chapter synopses and an upcoming "History and Lore" page? It would be best if this were a community project, and I'm interested in seeing what we can dig up together!

Just as a note: the layout poll is still ongoing! Please feel free to vote for one of the four listed layouts or suggest your own.

In main news, CLAMP-NET.com is now listing Gate 7 on its main page. The splash image was already featured in the Jump SQ announcement for the one-shot, but this is the first time we can see it in full -- you can view it here thanks to [livejournal.com profile] myraida! Unfortunately, the series doesn't have its own page yet (or any nifty little icons in the LOFT or CLAMP@MOBiLE areas), but we can probably expect it sometime in January or February.

Finally, I'm currently working on a character listing for informational purposes, since it would be helpful to have an update-able page on the comm itself. This could be joined in the future by a synopsis page, but it's best to focus on hammering out the smaller details first. If you see any problems with the character list, please comment here or in its entry at the testing journal [livejournal.com profile] monomomo!
